Publication of the Tribunal's Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report

I am pleased to announce the publication of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Annual Report of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal (WBAT). The Annual Report provides an overview of the Tribunal’s activities, user demographics, judgment highlights, and trends observed between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.

In FY 2024, the Tribunal concluded 17 cases, addressing issues such as employment contracts, jurisdiction, and ethical/respectful behaviors. Notable topics included the scope of disciplinary sanctions, fair treatment during misconduct investigations, retaliation, the non-renewal of term appointments, mobility premium benefits, fairness in the selection process, batch rotation exercises, the Bank’s duty of care to staff, and workers’ compensation.

The Tribunal’s cases reflected a shift with 47% from World Bank Group headquarters and 53% from country offices. Female applicants constituted 59% of applications and male applicants accounted for the remaining 41%. Most applicants (76%) held positions at Grade Levels GE and above, and 41% had Open-Ended appointments. In FY 2024, the Tribunal took an average of eight months to dispose of a case, the same as the average processing time in FY 2023.
